Description
These 1911 wood grips are CNC-machined from kiln-dried walnut blanks, sanded to 220 grit, and shipped completely raw, no stain, no sealer, no clear coat. The surface combines two distinct textures: machined checkering on the trigger-finger zone for index control, and rough texturing on the palm side for recoil retention, separated by a swooping carved curve cut directly into the wood face. A black-enameled screaming eagle medallion is inlaid flush from the back, with raised detail on enamel.
Shipped unfinished so the buyer controls the final look. Common finishes for raw walnut gun grips include hand staining, tung oil, lacquer, polyurethane, wood burning, laser engraving, and hydrographic dipping. Because the surface is unsealed, it absorbs stain evenly and holds finish without lifting.
Why the dual-texture surface works?
Single-texture grips force a tradeoff — checkering everywhere bites the support hand, smooth panels offer no purchase under recoil. The carved curve on these checkered grips divides the panel into two functional zones: checkering where index control matters, rough texture where palm grip matters. Both zones in one panel, no tradeoff.
The screaming eagle medallion
The black-enameled eagle is inlaid flush — it sits level with the wood surface, not raised above it. No snag points. The screaming eagle design is a recognized patriotic 1911 motif that suits both restoration builds and custom American-themed pistols.
