Description
Outback rosewood 1911 wood grips with a smooth face and black Colt medallions seated flush at the top of each panel. Outback rosewood runs deeper red-brown tones and more pronounced grain figure than standard rosewood, the same wood species, but cut from sections where the grain patterns are denser and more visually active. No two sets of outback rosewood panels carry identical grain, which means your grips won’t look like anyone else’s on the line.
The surface is smooth, no checkering, no stippling, no carving. Smooth outback rosewood carries a 1911 the way wood grips were originally intended to carry one. The natural grain texture gives the palm a consistent contact surface without the abrasion of cut or stippled panels. For daily carry, smooth wood doesn’t catch on cover garments, doesn’t abrade holster leather, and doesn’t chew at the shooting hand over a long range session.
The black Colt medallion runs matte-finished metal, inlaid below the panel surface, not surface-bonded, not adhesive-mounted. Dark medallion against deep red-brown wood reads as a serious build rather than a decorative one. It survives bore solvent, cleaning oil, and holster contact without lifting at the edges or staining the rosewood around it.
Fitment: Full-size single-stack 1911 family: Colt Government, Colt Commander, Kimber, Springfield Armory, Ruger SR1911, Smith & Wesson SW1911, Remington R1, Sig 1911, Rock Island, GSG, and Taurus 1911. Standard 3-1/16″ screw spacing. Ambi safety cut included. Officer frames, compact 1911s, 2011 double-stacks, and magwell-cut competition pistols use different geometry, panels ordered for the wrong frame won’t seat and cannot be modified to fit.
Four grip screws out with a hex driver. Old panels off. Outback rosewood panels on. Screws back in. Five minutes. No fitting, no gunsmith.
Outback rosewood is the right wood for a Colt build because the grain depth and red-brown tone complement blued and stainless steel equally. The black Colt medallion keeps the branding present without the bright contrast of gold or silver hardware. 30-day returns if panels don’t seat flush on your pistol.
